How I Fell in Love with Young Living Essential Oils
My Story
I worked for the forest industry and spent a lot of time trudging through the bush in all types of weather and terrain, which eventually created a lot of discomfort in my body. So, I went to this amazing lady in my hometown, Carla Green, an acupuncturist/physiotherapist. I was in pure agony! Because of her vast knowledge and incredible history of helping people with passion, I knew I was in good hands. Through her tutorage, care and the use of essential oils, my body started to feel normal again... but it's not really me that I want to talk about! Young Living is amazing for humans and animals alike, so I have to tell you about that handsome guy in the picture above because he is the one who really tweaked my passion for essential oils!
In 2014 we were on a pack trip in the mountains guiding a family into the beautiful Wilmore Wilderness. A little back history: It is imperative when travelling with 25+ horses that we can keep them contained, as well as fed. As there are no fences, outfitters for years have been hobbling and putting bells on their horses. If used properly, neither does harm providing you're in a camp with lots of feed, so they don't need to travel any great distance. Hobbles just slow them down and at the same time allow them the freedom to graze as they wish. The bells alert us to where they are if they do happen to wander too far.
Against my better judgement and letting my husband put a bell around his neck, he bolted. For years he had never attempted to move out of, or walk in his hobbles, but not this day! The sound of the bell was too much for him. This is before my animal communication days, and somehow, I just knew that the bell would scare him. Most horses it doesn't bother, but my boy.... well, he's the sensitive kind. I wasn't about to argue with my seasoned outfitter husband and at that time and I wasn't quite trusting my intuition, so I just let it go.
Later that day, another outfitter with a pack string of horses cruised right through where our horses were peacefully grazing and riled everyone up. After we thought we had everyone settled in for the night and it was just about dark, we realized that our 2 saddle horses were gone. Luckily for me, my husband is an amazing tracker (even in the dark with a pack of matches as he didn't grab a flashlight) and I was good at praying, 4 hours later he brought them home. It was truly the longest and worst four hours in my life!
Well not only is he sensitive, my horse is also delicate! With all that running for hours straight in hobbles trying to get away from the sound of the bell, he didn't fair so well. To make a long story short, he was in pretty rough shape by the time we got him home. The other horse being much sturdier was perfectly fine. In the picture above, he is tied up at the veterinarians with a horrific diagnosis: that he was done being a saddle horse. He would be messed up for the rest of his life and never recover. I was beyond heartbroken to say the least and told myself that this just wasn't going to happen. Not on my time! The vet was all for the oils! My horse was only 14 years old, in his prime!! My heart horse; I just couldn't fathom not having him in my life!!!! So, every day, I went out and muscle tested (anyone can muscle test!) what oils he needed that day for 30 days in a row. I also did raindrop therapy sessions using Young Living oils on him periodically. In the fall, we take our horses to a winter pasture which is a bit of a drive away, so we didn't see much of him until spring.
No pharmaceuticals were used and, in the spring, he was as good as new!!! We have had many amazing adventures since! I especially remember the one adventure where he calmly didn't react when we were almost pounced on by a cougar. He looked that cat right in the eye and stood his ground! He saved my life that day! I know we will have many more... but no more scary wildlife, please!!! Love this sweet boy! In 2024, he is 24 and is still going strong!!!

- Do let your animal decide for him/herself whether the oils is what they need. Do this by gently and politely blowing into them from a ways away. You will know exactly if they like it or not. I once had a horse grab Helichrysum right out of my hand!
- Do dilute your oils first with a carrier oil and start with a very small amount and gradually increase, if needed.
- Do supervise and watch your animal at all times to ensure all is safe and good.
- Do remember that all animals are different and will have different needs.
- Do make sure when using a diffuser that your animal is able to leave the room and get fresh air when he/she desires.
- Do make sure you always use the highest quality oil, which YL is famous for!

- Don't place an oil on an animal when it is very apparent that he/she doesn't want it.
